Guest lewisn1 Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 Fords replaced a seal or something, I had it re-gassed at the dealer 1 hour ago. The bloke at the garage said it took them a while to get it right!!! re-gassing, easy isn't it!!! anyway, it worked for 5 minutes after I left. Then it just stopped, it was like the air con had turned off. I can't seem to get it working again. Any ideas. I'm taking it back to fords :D again. sorry about posting about air con again but there is so much stuff on here about it, it would take me ages to read all the posts. Quote
Andrew T Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 I assume you've checked the fuses.... Quote
seatkid Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 If the CC panel flashes when you start the car, then the gas has leaked out. Bad repair. Take it back. Quote
Guest lewisn1 Posted September 7, 2005 Report Posted September 7, 2005 The panel does flash for 10 seconds when I start, but it stopped working 5 min after being re-gassed, it must be a huge leak to have lost all the gas in 5 min!! The bloke said they filled it right up too. I think it Quote
Guest lewisn1 Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 The Air con seems ok when I start the car, but after a short while it goes off and will not come back on until I re-start the car!!!! Any ideas??? It is under warranty but I dont have any faith in mt dealer and Fords don't seem to popular on these forums. Should I take it to an air con specialist? How much would I expect to pay for a diagnostic test ? Thanks people,Neil. Quote
seatkid Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 They've probably overfilled the system, its flashing and cutting out because of overpressure. Quote
johnb80 Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 They've probably overfilled the system, its flashing and cutting out because of overpressure. I'd agree with that, as the underbonnet temperature rises the gas pressure increases and it may well trip the high pressure. See if it works 1st thing in a morning, if so, it's very likely this is the cause. Regards - John Quote
HJT Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 I would go to a specialist and claim the money back from your dealer, telling them first what you intend to do. Most dealers know very little about aircon. Howard Quote
Guest lewisn1 Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 I didn't pay anything so I can't claim money back. It's under warranty. If it was overfilled would this still make the control flash for 10 seconds??? It has been booked into Fords for Monday, is there any point if its just overfilled? what shall I do next? I was thinking of going to an air con specialist but that would cost (not sure how much). I dont really want to pay when Fords will do it for free (but not as good). need some advice please :) Quote
MrT Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 Even a Ford dealer should not just top up a system. The normal equipment that is used is computer controlled and vacuum empties the system, weighs the contents and puts in the correct weight and mixture of refrigerant and oil. If this sort of equipment was used, it is unlikely to be overfilled. It would not take a very big hole to let out all the refrigerant in 5 minutes if the hole was on the high pressure side. If it is under warranty I would let Ford sort it out, it is their problem and any more problems they create they will have to fix. The flashing can also relate to the fact that you lost pressure before, the unit does not reset itself automatically and requires either the HVAC alarm to be reset by clearing it on a diagnostic machine, or alternatively by removing the power from it for several seconds. Guest lewisn1 Posted September 8, 2005 Report Posted September 8, 2005 So you think just let Fords sort it out. Thing is they had it last week and thought it just needed a new seal!!! So I am not to confident about them. So my thinking was to get an air con specialist to diagnose it, then I could tell Ford what the problem is :) Are they expensive? Quote
